An urgent recall has been issued for a popular children's shoe sold in Next due to safety concerns.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) confirmed the urgent recall of the Next Infant T-Bar Patent PU Bow Shoe, which is pictured below.

The risk associated with the shoe is as a result of the Velcro on the product potentially failing, which could cause the strap to come loose and present a tripping hazard.

The CCPC announced that the brand of the implicated product is Next, the type/number of the model are T36725 and A73410, but the batch number and the barcode are unknown.

According to the CCPC, approximately 336 affected products have been sold in the Republic of Ireland.

Customers affected by the recall are encouraged to discontinue use immediately and keep the shoes out of the reach of children.

A spokesperson for Next Ireland said: "Unfortunately, it's come to light that there's a potential problem with the strap not staying closed on some shoes, resulting in a tripping hazard.

"As these shoes don't meet our strict technical specifications, we've taken the precaution of recalling them and request that you return your shoes to us immediately for a full refund.

"Please contact us to arrange a full refund. If you have given any of these items as a gift, please ask the recipient to dispose of the item safely.

"We’re very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience this may have caused, but we hope you’ll understand that customer safety is our highest priority."
